Apply for a Dog

The LOLIN application process.
Hi, I'm Joanie. I'm a lucky LOLIN rescue!

Welcome!

We are thrilled that you’ve taken an interest in adopting the newest member of your family! Part of LOLIN’s mission is to educate the public about the importance of supporting rescue rather than buying puppies and dogs from breeders and pet stores. You’re making a choice that will give you years of joy!  Get ready for lots of love, wagging tails, and snuggles as you start this journey toward adopting from LOLIN.

If this is not your first rescue dog, then you know the sense of reward that rescuing provides, and the joy of providing a loving home for a dog in need. If this is your first rescue, we are happy to have you join us on this mission!

Our adoption coordinator and the rest of our adoption team will be with you every step of the way. We’re here to answer your questions, to help you find a dog that fits your lifestyle and family, and to give you ongoing help and advice even after your adoption is complete. We’re in this together!

All of us at LOLIN would like to say THANK YOU for choosing to rescue and to make a difference in the life of a dog!

STEP 1: Complete the Adoption Application below.

This questionnaire benefits you by helping us understand what type of dog will fit best in your family. Please be honest in your responses.

Once we receive your application, the LOLIN adoption team will review your application and send you a welcome email. If you haven’t heard back within 72 hours, please email us at adoption@lolin.org requesting the status of your application. (Please note: There may be more than one volunteer contacting you and most will use their personal email. If you have not received an email from a LOLIN volunteer within 72 hours, be sure to check your junk mail/spam folder.)

Our goal is to do an initial screening, telephone interview and reference check within a week of receiving your application. If we are processing a large number of applications, this may take slightly longer.

We request a $20 Application Donation. This helps to cover the cost of getting dogs from shelters and providing their essential medical needs as they prepare for adoption. To donate, you may pay via PayPal or mail a check or money order to:

Lolin, Inc.,
8063 Madison Ave #235
Indianapolis, IN 46227

Please note: a PayPal account is not required for online payments. Debit and credit cards are accepted through PayPal. Online payments are encouraged due to the extra time it takes to receive and process mailed payments.

IF YOU HAVE OWNED A DOG OR CAT IN THE LAST 5 YEARS, BASIC VET RECORDS ARE REQUIRED; OTHERWISE, YOU MAY SKIP THIS STEP.

As part of your application, you must submit a list of all veterinary clinics you have used in the last five years. Along with the welcome email you will receive a link to a form for your veterinarian to complete: https://lolin.org/vet-request. This form requests verification of the administration of monthly heartworm prevention, annual heartworm testing, all required vaccinations, and proof of spay or neuter for current or previous pets. Please note: We only need this basic information and not the pet’s whole health history. Please ask your clinic/s to fill out the form online and submit it to us. If the vet will not or cannot use the online form, download this PDF version of the form and provide it to your vet. They can email or fax the form back to us. We may call your veterinarian for additional information. Be sure to give your clinic/s permission to speak with our volunteer. Without your permission, many clinics will not share vetting information causing your application to be delayed. If you have not adhered to the Guidelines from the American Heartworm Society on Test and Prevention, please do not apply. Proof of heartworm prevention is required of all LOLIN adopters.

Our application requires you to list personal references on your application. Personal references should NOT be immediate family members. One of our volunteers will call your references to verify their relationship with you and their opinion of your ability to care for one of our Labs. This step is required, so please make sure your references will return calls promptly.

The next step is a brief phone interview with one of our LOLIN volunteers. The volunteer will go over your application with you. This call helps us get to know you better and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you receive a message from one of our telephone interview volunteers, please return the call as quickly as possible to avoid processing delays.

After your telephone interview and reference checks, an experienced LOLIN volunteer will schedule a time to visit with you in your home. This visit helps the volunteer get a feel for the environment where our rescued Lab will live. This is another opportunity for you to ask questions. Our volunteer is NOT interested in how clean your house is but will point out any potential issues that could be dangerous. Examples of this are gates that don’t fasten tightly, access to dangerous items/poisonous chemicals, or trash cans an inquisitive Lab could get into.

After the home visit, the volunteer sends a report to our Adoption Team for review. The home visit volunteer cannot tell you if your application will be approved or information about specific dogs. The Adoption Team makes the final decision on whether your application will be approved. In some cases, the Adoption Team may seek input from the Board of Directors on the final approval decision, which could delay the approval decision.

If we do not feel you can provide a proper home for a rescued Lab, we will notify you and include an explanation.
