Rehoming Your Lab
Owner Surrender Resources
IMPORTANT:
If you adopted your dog from Love of Labs IN, please email lolin@lolin.org for post adoption support.
We never want to see a Lab in need of a new home. We want to live in a world where every Lab lives in the same home forever. But we understand that sometimes circumstances in life dictate that you can no longer care for your Lab.
Before you make the final decision to rehome your Lab, please take the time to review the resources below about other options. We can provide resources to trainers who can help with behavior issues and recommend searching for a local positive reinforcement trainer or veterinary behaviorist through the Humane Training Alliance of Indiana.
If you still feel that keeping your Lab is completely impossible, these are the recommended resources to find a safe, suitable, loving home for your Lab. Alternatives to surrender should always be considered before making the difficult decision of bringing a pet to a shelter or rescue.
Rehoming Resources
OPTION 1:
Where did your pet come from? Former owners, rescue groups, shelters, and responsible breeders are genuinely interested in the pets they have been involved with, some will even have contracts requiring that you contact them if you are unable to keep the pet. We recommend you contact the person or group where you originally got your pet to see if they would be willing to take the pet back, or at the very least, help you network to find a new home.
OPTION 2:
Rehome by rehome.adoptapet.com provides a platform to safely and quickly create a profile and share your pet’s story with many adopters looking for a new furry family member! This platform is in no way affiliated with Love of Labs Indiana but is a trusted resource for many shelters in Central Indiana and beyond for those looking for assistance in rehoming their dog safely.
